Barren River Lake State Resort Park is getting upgrades in an effort to improve visitor experience and to attract new visitors.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear announced that the park in southern Barren County will receive $9.5 million to make the upgrades. Six million dollars of the award will go towards upgrading lodge rooms, finishes, flooring, bathrooms and mini fridges, according to a Team Kentucky press release. The remaining $3.5 million will be for a new HVAC and mechanical system, including a new chiller, the release stated.
The construction is expected to be completed in the fall 2026. Lodge rooms will be closed beginning in February for the renovations, according to the release.
“This investment in Barren River Lake State Resort Park shows our ongoing commitment to providing the best recreational opportunities for Kentuckians and visitors,” said Kentucky State Parks Deputy Commissioner Mark Kellen. “These upgrades ensure that our parks remain a top destination for families and outdoor enthusiasts for years to come.”
Upgrades such as the ones slated for the park are due to Beshear signing a joint resolution releasing $71 million for capital construction projects in April 2024, according to the release.
