The City of Glasgow has collected over $63,000 for tourism over the past few months, according to Tina Wood, director for administrative services for the Glasgow-Barren County Tourist and Convention Commission.

During the commission’s Jan. 13 meeting, Wood reported the following amounts for each month: in October, a little over $19,700; in November, nearly $28,500; and in December, roughly $15,280.

MacLean Lessenberry, director of the commission, said since these payments from local businesses are received by the city sporadically, some of the months do not directly correlate with tourism from that specific month.

“It skews all the numbers on our record keeping,” Lessenberry said. “So it’s a little confusing.”

The director said the commission has been cautious spending their funds because last year’s tourism numbers were more irregular than in recent past.

“Spending-wise, we’ve been really cautious,” Lessenberry said. “Just because 2025 calendar year was such a crazy up and down year.

“We just wanted to be a little more prepared than we were last year in case these next few months are up and down.”

Stemming from a Cave City tourism recommendation, the commission will use Green River CPA to audit their financials for the last fiscal year. Lessenberry said the accounting firm will present the audit at the commission’s February meeting.
