Caverna Independent Schools is canceling in-person classes for the rest of the week due to illness. The school district will be using non-traditional instruction days on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and students are expected to complete classwork virtually.
Superintendent Amanda Abell told Glasgow News 1 on Tuesday afternoon that the school district makes a decision like this when the districtwide attendance percentage hangs around 85 percent.
“We’ve hit 85 percent for two days in a row,” she said.
The superintendent added that many students who came to school on Tuesday ended up seeing the school nurse and checking out for the day. Abell said a lot of students are testing positive for the flu.
The school district hopes that these days away from the school buildings will help some students recover from illness and help stop the spread of germs.
