Park City Commissioners Mike Burgess and Linda Burgess, who are husband and wife, both submitted their resignation letters Friday, Jan. 9.

“I am resigning my position as Park City commissioner and mayor pro tem effective immediately,” wrote Mike Burgess in his letter. “I feel it is best because of citizens complaining about married couples being on the commission.”

He went on to write that he did not wish to go against the wishes of Park City residents. “I love Park City and will continue to do what is best for the city, and I wish them the best. Thank you for the votes in the past three elections. I appreciate all of the Park City citizens’ support.”

Linda Burgess’ letter mirrored Mike’s, citing complaints regarding the commissioners’ personal relationship, as well as family health concerns that conflict with her ability to serve.

Park City Mayor Donna Scavo confirmed the commission will appoint two new commissioners to serve the remainder of the terms for both.

“We are saddened to see them leave us,” Scavo said. “But we appreciate their service to the city and all the contributions made along the way.”

“While they will be missed, Park City will move forward and continue to grow,” the mayor said.
