Barren County Middle School principal Joey Bunch released a statement to parents and guardians about an alleged threat at the school.

“We want to make you aware of an incident that occurred today at the middle school,” Bunch wrote. “Earlier today, school staff were alerted to written language in a bathroom that referenced a threat of violence. The message was reported immediately, and school administrators and law enforcement responded right away.

“After a thorough investigation, law enforcement determined there was no credible threat. At no time were students in danger.”

The statement included the procedures that are used to ensure the safety of students and staff at the school: Students are screened each morning through our weapons detection system; a School Resource Officer is on campus; our threat assessment protocols are in place and actively used; staff continue to closely monitor students and school activities throughout the day.

“We understand that situations like this can be concerning. We are sharing this information directly to ensure families have accurate details and to reaffirm our commitment to student safety,” Bunch wrote. “We value the partnership we share with our parents and guardians in keeping our students safe.”

The statement also encouraged families and students to use the Stop Tip Line (866-393-6659) to report concerns anonymously.
