Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd explained the necessity of two meetings a month during the Jan. 6 Barren County Fiscal Court meeting.
The fiscal court typically holds two meetings a month — on the first and third Tuesdays — with the first meeting having a Zoom option available. The first meeting is shorter than the one on the third Tuesday because they do not include committee or department reports, according to Byrd.
Byrd said the first meeting is primarily to approve the payment of bills. This increase in meeting frequency has worked well and increased efficiency in the office, according to Byrd.
“The fiscal court used to only meet once a month,” Byrd said during the five-and-a-half minute meeting Tuesday. ” We added the two meetings to help with getting bills paid…and to keep processes moving, and allow our office to be more efficient.”
“It’s worked tremendously,” she added.
Barren County magistrates do not get paid per meeting, Byrd wrote to Glasgow News 1 on Jan. 6.
The explanation was due to the fact that the meeting agenda only featured four action items. All of the items were approved by the present magistrates.
