Bond has been reduced in the Barren County criminal case involving a single-vehicle crash.

Nineteen-year-old Barry Sexton, of Barren County, has had his bond reduced from $10,000 cash to $10,000 secured by 10 percent cash, according to his court records. This reduction means Sexton, or someone acting on his behalf, would only need to pay $1,000 to have Sexton released from the Barren County Detention Center.

As of Jan. 2, Sexton remains in the detention center.

Despite the commonwealth’s attorney’s opposition, Judge John Alexander signed the court order noting that Sexton is at low risk to reoffend, a low risk to miss a court appearance and lacks “a significant criminal history,” according to the court order reducing bond.

In addition to the bond modification, Sexton, if released, will be subject to several non-monetary bond conditions, like home incarceration with a GPS monitor for at least 120 days, random drug and alcohol tests and no contact with the female passenger who was hurt during the crash, the court order details.

His next Barren County Circuit Court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 12 at 1 p.m.

Sexton was arrested by Barren County Sheriff’s deputies on July 28 for leaving the scene when his vehicle crashed on Matthews Mill Road on July 27, which injured his female passenger that required her to be flown to Skyline Medical Center in Tennessee.
