Newer bus drivers for Barren County Schools were most likely trained by Sarah Reece, who was recently recognized by the district’s board of education and transportation department.
“That job is very demanding,” said Scott Chapman, transportation director for the district, when talking about Reece. “She does a great job with that because she is the one that is training all of our bus drivers, and she does not take that lightly.
“She takes that very seriously, and she does not send anybody to get their test until she knows they’re ready. And if they’re not ready, she lets me know.”
Chapman said having Reece on his team gives him extra confidence.
“It’s a great relief that I have somebody that I can count on,” he said. “That makes sure we have safe bus drivers in our district.”
During the board of education’s December meeting, Reece was honored as Barren County’s Bus Driver of the Month.

“Sarah is one of the best bus drivers that we have,” Chapman said. “She also drives for North Jackson — does an amazing job. Not just her regular route but she also has preschool.
“So every day she’s got the 3- and 4-year-olds all the way up to the 18-year-olds.”
Chapman said Reece exemplifies excellent teamwork and is willing to jump in wherever she is needed.
“She’s even been the dispatcher a couple times,” he said. “So she stepped in and did that. She’s been willing to drive other people’s routes and put somebody on her route that already knows it, just to help out.
“Her creative thinking and doing things like that, and letting people know: ‘Hey, what about this? What about that?’ And every time, we’ve come to an agreement: ‘Yes, we think that’s what needs to be done.’”
Chapman said he appreciates everything Reece does for the school district.
“What a great asset to this county.”
