A Metcalfe County teen charged with murder, wanton endangerment and assault pleaded not guilty during his initial Barren County Circuit Court appearance on Monday, Dec. 29.

Eighteen-year-old Asa Howard has a $750,000 cash bond and another court appearance scheduled for April 13 at 1 p.m., according to the Barren County Detention Center. A review of court records show search warrants have been issued for Howard’s phone and its contents.

Howard was indicted by a Barren County grand jury earlier in December on three murder counts, three first-degree wanton endangerment counts and a first-degree assault count stemming from the fatal collision that occurred in October at the intersection of the Veterans Outer Loop and North Jackson Highway.

Howard was the driver of the 2016 Nissan Altima that collided with a 2017 Toyota Highlander.
