Lester Gillman “Gil” Poynter, age 65 of Fountain Run, departed this life on Sunday, December 28, 2025 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green. The Barren County native was born on August 30, 1960 to the late Talbert E. and Maxine Poynter. He was married to his loving wife, Brenda Sue Brooks Poynter, until they were parted by her passing on June 10, 2025.
Gil enjoyed a fulfilling career spanning many years as a skilled machinist and dedicated maintenance worker, contributing his talents to RR Donnelly, Dana Corporation, and Magna before retiring. He was a member of Woodland Baptist Church, where he found fellowship and faith. Above all, Gil cherished his family deeply and had a true passion for the great outdoors! Nothing brought him more joy than spending time hunting and fishing, where he felt most at peace.
He is survived by his sons, Lester M. Poynter of McCall, Idaho and Justin Poynter (Tiffany) of Knob Noster, Missouri; grandchildren, Matthew Hurt (Breanna), Phoenix Poynter and Dallas Poynter; great-grandchildren, Brayleigh Dyer, Owen Hurt and Blakelynn Hurt and his sisters, Linda Rigdon, Sheena Martin (Doug) and Teresa Chisim (W.T.).
Besides his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Danny Dale and Ernest Lee Poynter.
Funeral services for Lester Gillman “Gil” Poynter will be held at 2PM Friday, January 2, 2025 at the Patton Funeral Home Cave City Chapel with interment in Rocky Hill Cemetery. Visitation from 12 to 2PM Friday at the funeral home. The family request all memorial contributions be made to the Patton Funeral Home, Lester Gillman “Gil” Poynter Memorial Fund, PO Box 318, Cave City, KY 42127, for funeral expenses.
