Dec 23, 2025 | 11:39 AM

George Kenneth Humes 90 of Tompkinsville, passed away Monday,  December 22, 2025, at Signature Health Care in Tompkinsville, Kentucky, surrounded by his family.

Born February 18, 1935 in Monroe County, he was a son of the late Anna Lee Humes. Kenneth, often called George by his friends, was well known around town. He was a gifted carpenter, turning out beautiful pieces of furniture, or just lending a hand helping others build what was needed. Later he worked for the Monroe County School System as a custodian and then as a groundskeeper, until his retirement. Kenneth was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed bluegrass music and for many years could be found on Sunday evenings next to his radio listening to a local Bluegrass Radio Show. Kenneth was a kind, soft-spoken man; a wonderful husband, father, and papa, that will be dearly missed by his family.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 48 years, Mary Scott Coots, of Tompkinsville; a daughter, Peggy (and Edward) Hopkins, of Tompkinsville; two sons, Mark (and Kelly) Coots, of Russell Springs, and Joe (and Stephania) Coots, of Glasgow; thirteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; several bonus grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a sister, Clair Welch; a brother, Gee Humes; and three granddaughters, Heather Strode, Amber Bryant and Melanie Turner

Funeral services will be 1 PM Friday, December 26, 2025 at Yokley Trible Funeral Home in Tompkinsville.   Matt Ethridge and Mark Coots will officiate. Burial to follow at Old Mt. Herman Cemetery.

Visitation after 9 AM until service time at 1 PM, Friday, at Yokley Trible Funeral Home.

Donations suggested to the Old Mt. Herman Cemetery.
