A former Kentucky Wildcat turned NBA television color analyst will be in Glasgow for several hours on Friday, Dec. 12.

Jack “Goose” Givens was a player on the 1978 team that won the NCAA Division I Basketball Championship against Duke and was that year’s Final Four Most Outstanding Player in part due to his 41-point performance. Aaron Russell, communications director for the Glasgow Electric Plant Board, said the sixty-nine-year-old’s record is still an NCAA record for most points scored in a championship game.

Givens will be at the plant board on Mallory Drive from 10:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Friday to celebrate the one-year anniversary for EPB and American Cable, Russell said.

“He’s a legendary player,” Russell said. “We’re able to have him come down…because of a connection he has with the owner of American Cable, Roy Helm. We thought, especially in the heat of basketball season, that now would be a good time for him to come down.”

“We wanted to celebrate [the partnership between the two companies] as well as provide just a fun event,” he added.

During the three-and-a-half hours in which Givens is at the plant board, Russell said people will get to meet him, get things autographed — whether brought or bought at the event — buy his book and enter numerous giveaways, which include items like two UK tickets and a 1978 special bourbon.

“There’s no charge,” Russell said. “They just get to meet a legend.”
