As colder temperatures get a firm grip on Barren County, Bridge Kentucky is once again offering a dry, warm place for people to get out of the weather.
For the third year, the nonprofit has opened its daytime warming room to the public anytime the temperature drops below 50 degrees, Director Wade Copas said. He added that the room would also be open for inclement weather, like “storms and not just for cold.” The warming room — which was opened on Christmas Eve 2023, Copas said — features numerous books, snacks, coffee that was donated by the Hive, and cable television.
“Even though it may be a temporary place for people to get out of the elements, it’s nice to be able to offer that, “Copas said. “It’s hard for a lot of people to be able to find somewhere that they won’t be run off…so this is a place for people to take refuge and get out of the weather. It’s important for us to be able to provide warmth especially when it’s cold outside.”
“Anybody needing to get out of the weather, out of the cold, can come over there and find some warmth,” Copas added.
The warming room is open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and can be found at Bridge Kentucky’s location at 1411 N. Race St. in Glasgow. Copas encouraged people to use Bridge Kentucky’s services after the room closes each day.
