Glasgow Independent Schools students had a higher score on the ACT than the state’s average while Barren County Schools students came in slightly lower.
The Kentucky Department of Education recently released data relating to ACT composite scores for the class of 2025. Kentucky performed among the top states that test all students, according to a department press release. Kentucky had an average composite score of 18.4 and — out of those that test 100 percent of graduates — is below Nebraska, Wyoming and Tennessee that had averages of 19.2, 19.1 and 18.8, respectively.
Glasgow High School had a composite score of 19.0, according to principal Joey Norman. Barren County Schools announced an 18.1 — or 18.2 if BAVEL and the College Street Campus are excluded, according to Heather Gardner, district public relations personnel.
All Kentucky juniors take the ACT test through Department of Education funding, the release stated. There are only eight states that test 100 percent of students with the ACT.
“As with any assessment, the ACT results from the class of 2025 paint a complex picture,” said Commissioner of Education Robbie Fletcher. “We at the Kentucky Department of Education are proud of where we stand nationally among states where every student is tested, which reflects our dedication to preparing every student for success in college, career and life.”
Beginning in the spring 2026 Kentucky juniors will take the SAT as part of the state’s required college admissions exam testing instead of the ACT as its contract with the department ended on June 30.
