Richard A. Biven, Sr., age 79, of Horse Cave, Kentucky, formally of Louisville, passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife, Nancy, and his three boys. Richard was born on August 31, 1946, in Louisville, Kentucky. Richard was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who valued family, faith, and community.
Richard moved to Horse Cave in 1977 to open Biven’s IGA grocery store, and was a member of the Caverna Jaycees and Booster Club. Richard enjoyed watching his boys strap up on the gridiron on Friday nights. Richard retired from Walmart where he was an over the road truck driver.
Richard is survived by his devoted and beloved wife, Nancy Biven, whom he had dated since the day before her 15th birthday. Richard and Nancy would have been married 60 years this December of 2025; three sons, Richard A. Biven, Jr. (Kellye), of Louisville, Kentucky, Gregory A. Biven (Leslie), of Bardstown, Kentucky, and Jonathan Biven (Ashley), of Glasgow, Kentucky; grandchildren, Zachary (Oliva), Meredith, Layla (Scott), Hope, Noah, Kagean, Devin, Cheyenne, Jay, Marion, Madeline, Payden, Addison, and Brenlee; six great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ellen Bowles (Eddie); his brothers-in-law, Charles, James, Kenneth, Donald, Alan, Stevie, John Kestler, and their wives; sister, Patrica Hudgens; and several nieces and nephews.
Richard is preceded in death by his mother, Nellie Meredith Biven, a brother, Gerald Biven, and sisters Rose Drury, and Donna Cruise.
Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at 12:00PM Noon, at the Our Lady of the Caves Catholic Church. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025, at Winn Funeral Home, from 4:00PM to 8:00PM, with a Rosary Service beginning at 6:00PM. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at the Our Lady of the Caves Catholic Church, from 10:00AM until the time of the mass at 12:00PM Noon. All times are central. Burial will follow the service at the Horse Cave Municipal Cemetery. A reception will follow at the St. Bernadette Hall, located by the Our Lady of the Caves Catholic Church.
At the request of the Biven Family, alternate forms of sympathy can be made in Richard’s name to Our Lady of the Caves Catholic Church, or to the TJ Samson Hospice Program.
