Kevin Jackson rolled out the history of the property where T.J. Regional Health’s first Warren County facility will be built. The state representative, who is a Smiths Grove native, told the crowd gathered for the ceremonial ground breaking Wednesday at the site of the former Bryce Inn that the location is a special place to him. It’s where he met his wife.
“At 14 years old I got my first job as a lifeguard” at the hotel swimming pool, he said. “Locals could come swim for $10 a person.”
The next year the Bryce family bought the property and they didn’t need him as a lifeguard any longer. But, Jackson said, they had a daughter he kept his eye on, “and nine years later I married Debbie Bryce.” They’ve been married 40 years.
T.J. Regional Health bought the property near the interchange with Interstate 65 in Smiths Grove with the intent of building a stand-along clinic there. The groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday included representatives of the Warren County Chamber of Commerce, T.J. Health, and Alliance Corporation. Each took turns talking about the importance of the clinic to the community.
“This new $10 million, 16,000-square-foot facility represents T.J. Regional Health’s first expansion into Smiths Grove and the Warren County market, and it is designed to redefine what accessible healthcare looks like for families and patients of all ages,” stated a release associated with the groundbreaking.
“This new facility embodies our mission to meet patients where they are — both literally and figuratively,” said Neil Thornbury, CEO of T.J. Regional Health. “Our drive-through model will make it easier for busy families, parents with children, and elderly patients to get quick, high-quality care in a convenient and comfortable way. We believe T.J. Health Smiths Grove will serve as a model for other healthcare facilities –- not just across our state, but across the nation.”
