More than four dozen people filed to run in local races in Barren County. The filing deadline for most Barren County races was Jan. 9 at 4 p.m.
Several races will have primaries as more than one candidate is of the same political party. Primary Election Day is May 19, according to the 2026 election calendar.

Nov. 5 was the first day for candidates to file to run in the 2026 election, according to the Kentucky Secretary of State’s website. The last day for positions that do not have a primary, then the deadline is June 2, 2026.
Ashton Harrison, election coordinator at the Barren County Clerk’s office, said those races that do not have a primary include all local school boards, Cave City and Park City elections. Cave City and Park City do not have primaries because both municipalities created an ordinance around 1989 waiving them.
