Dozens of people have filed to run in the numerous county elected positions that will appear on the 2026 ballot.
Nov. 5 was the first day for candidates to file to run in the 2026 election, according to the Kentucky Secretary of State’s website. The last day for filings is Jan. 9, 2026 at 4 p.m., unless the position filed for does not have a primary, then the deadline is June 2, 2026.
Ashton Harrison, election coordinator at the Barren County Clerk’s office, said those races that do not have a primary include all local school boards, Cave City and Park City elections. Cave City and Park City do not have primaries because both municipalities created an ordinance around 1989 waiving them.
Every other race that has multiple candidates running that are the same political party will have a primary.
