RECAP: Trojans roll over Patriots, 40-0

The Barren County Trojans closed the regular season with a 40-0 win at Allen County-Scottsville on Friday.

Barren took the lead 56 seconds into the game when Jaxson Byrd returned an interception 34 yards for a touchdown. Jacob Dooley’s extra point attempt was wide right and the Trojans led 6-0.

Barren pushed its lead to 12-0 with 6:28 left in the first quarter when Braxton Carnes scored on a one-yard run. The two-point conversion pass was broken up in the end zone.

The Trojans’ next touchdown came three minutes later on an 11-yard run by Corbin Wells. Jacob Dooley added the extra point to push the lead to 19-0.

Barren scored once more in the first quarter with a 23-yard punt return by Wells. Dooley’s PAT gave the Trojans a 26-0 lead.

Briggs Harris scored Barren’s fifth touchdown with an 11-yard run with 9:11 left in the first half. Dooley’s PAT gave the Trojans a 33-0 lead.

Barren’s final touchdown came with 10:51 showing in the third quarter with a three-yard pass from Harris to Weston Shelton. Dooley added the extra point to set the final score of 40-0. The game was played under a running clock the rest of the way.

Wells led the Trojans on the ground with 61 yards on six attempts, while Harris ran for 59 yards on nine carries. Byrd posted 21 yards on three carries. He also caught two passes for 63 yards.

Shelton caught two passes for 49 yards.

Harris completed six of 11 passes for 112 yards.

The Trojans closed the regular season at 5-5. They open the playoffs Friday at Owensboro Apollo at 7 p.m.
