Chloe Witcher and Lucy Zalla both played well enough to survive and advance Monday. Witcher shot 9 over par 81, and Zalla fired 12-over 84 at Calvert City Country Club. The tournament was the first leg of the Kentucky High School Athletics Association girls’ state golf tournament.
Trinity Beth of Marshall County ran away with the individual win with a 5-under par 67. Claire Reynolds of Daviess County was second with a 72, while Kenzie Willen of Cumberland County was third with a 2-over par 74.
Barren County finished seventh as a team, while Bowling Green won the team title with a 33-over 321. The Lady Purples are coached by Barren County graduate Logan Steenbergen. The top three teams and next 15 golfers not on one of those teams make the cut to the state tournament at Bowling Green Country Club next week. Calvert City was one of three first-round sites in the state.
Also for the Trojanettes, Alli Spillman fired 93, Karden Kinslow fired 104 and Rayleigh Tarry finished with 108.
Glasgow eighth grader Harlow Bale also played in the semi-state tournament and finished with a 102.
