Fall has officially begun, and the Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library wants every child to enjoy Halloween, so it is collecting gently used costumes that will be given away for free during an inaugural costume drive from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11.
“Prices are going up — everything is super expensive,” said Krista Jones, manager of youth services at the library. “We just want to make sure every kid has an opportunity to have a costume and go trick-or-treating.”
Jones said many costumes have already been donated, but she is hoping they get more.
“Donate your outgrown or no-longer-needed costumes” to help area children enjoy the spooky season, a flyer for the event states. “Give your costumes a second life” and place them in a box or a bag and drop them off at the library until Oct. 10.
Costumes must not have rips, tears or stains, and makeup will only be accepted if it is unopened. All sizes — even adult sizes — will be accepted, but please do not bring anything inappropriate.
During the event on Oct. 11, the costumes will be located in the library’s lobby.
“It doesn’t cost anything,” Jones said. “It’s all free.”
Any costumes left after the drive will be donated to Goodwill.
