Barren County opened district action at Bowling Green on Friday night, and took one on the nose.
The Trojans opened well enough with a 40-yard run by Daylan Thomas. But the drive stalled on a pair of penalties, and from there the Purples controlled the game en route to a 42-7 win.
Bowling Green scored its first touchdown with 5:09 left in the first quarter. An extra point set the score at 7-0.
The Purples pushed their lead to 14-0 early in the second quarter with a screen pass and extra point. Their third touchdown came on a 62-yard pass play with 8:51 left in the second quarter.
Bowling Green added one more touchdown before halftime on a 41-yard pass play.
The Purples opened the second half with a 74-yard touchdown play.
The Trojans answered that score with a five-yard touchdown run by Daylan Thomas with 1:23 left in the third quarter. Jacob Dooley added the extra point.
The Purples scored once more just before the end of the game to set the final score.
Thomas led the way for the Trojans with 123 rush yards and the touchdown. He also had 11 yards receiving.
Jaxson Byrd ran for 14 yards, Steel Whitaker rushed for 17 yards, and Braxton Carnes ran for 16.
Barren County fell to 2-3 with the loss and 0-1 in district action. The Trojans host Grayson County next Friday at 7 p.m. in another district showdown.
