People from Glasgow, Cave City and Barren County gathered at the corner of East College and South Franklin streets in Glasgow to celebrate the new coroner’s office on Sept. 16.

“This is a historic day for the coroner’s office,” Barren County Coroner Tim Gibson told magistrates at the Barren County Fiscal Court meeting earlier Tuesday. “All of [the current county magistrates] are the first that have ever provided an office for the Barren County Coroner in the 224 years of the coroner’s existence in Barren County.”

Outside the building, punctuated by congratulatory remarks from community members and former coroners and deputies, Gibson said he was very pleased with the new office, calling it “fantastic.”

“I actually drew the plans for this,” Gibson said. “I said ‘hey, this is how I want it set up’ and it happened.”

The permanent office is located at 310 S. Franklin St. It was purchased by the Barren County Fiscal Court in March 2023. The fiscal court bought the property for $359,297.24, according to prior reporting. In addition to being a space for the Barren County Coroner’s three-man office, the building also serves as storage for the election equipment and for emergency management equipment.

Gibson has shared an office in the Barren County Government Center. He told Glasgow News 1 that his office has already moved into the new space.

“We’re set,” Gibson said. “The coroners after me are not going to have to worry about this. We’re good to go.”

“This will serve coroners for decades to come,” he added.
