As expected, all seven county magistrates voted in favor of lowering Barren County’s tax rate for the 2025-26 fiscal year.

The ordinance, which had a first reading Wednesday, Sept. 9, drops the county tax rate from the previously approved 12.6 cents per $100 of assessed value to 12.2 cents per $100.

“[We are] taking every effort we can to drop the taxes,” Byrd said before the roll-call vote. “I understand the assessments have went up, so we’re dropping [the rate.]”

Putting that in context, this means on a property assessed by the Property Valuation Administration at $500,000 the county tax would be $610.
