November 11 may be the officially designated day to honor veterans, but in Glasgow that recognition is beginning a bit earlier with 25 new veterans banners.

The red, white and blue banners hang off lampposts in and around the Glasgow Public Square and feature a photo of the local veteran, their branch of service and the length of time served.  In 2024, city employees hung 17 veterans banners, and 16 the year prior.

The new veterans on the banners are:

  1. Beau Jones
  2. Bobby Travis
  3. Carl Dale Norman
  4. Carrell Clemmons
  5. James Leon Strange
  6. Donald Furlong
  7. Donald Moravb
  8. Donald W. Price
  9. Ernest Ritter Jr.
  10. Freddy Travis
  11. Jerald Allway
  12. Jerry Gibbs
  13. Jerry M. Stahl
  14. Jimmy Phelps
  15. Kenneth Robertson
  16. Kenneth Turner
  17. Joe Lane Travis
  18. Aaron M. Owens
  19. Nick Johns
  20. Ricky Brooks
  21. Robert Kinslow
  22. Steven Brent Buckley
  23. Todd Travis

Mutter initially brought the idea to the city council in 2023, saying that he had seen similar banners in other towns.
