The Park City Tourist and Convention Commission gathered Tuesday evening for a meeting that, while brief, carried updates on both ongoing trail projects and the city’s plans for Christmas.

The session lasted just over half an hour, with commissioners noting that the light agenda came partly because the body had met less than a month ago.

Tourism director Linda Watts shared that the city has now received its reimbursement check from a state Trail Town Grant, totaling $12,624.75. The grant program, announced last year by Governor Andy Beshear’s office, provides funding “to repair, enhance and promote projects that boost quality of life in Kentucky communities while attracting visitors from across the commonwealth and around the world.”

For Park City, the money has gone toward updating trail signage and beautification efforts, as well as reworking paths used by both locals and tourists. Watts said the commission will also soon name its “Trail User of the Year,” an honor given to someone who not only uses the trails regularly but encourages others to do the same.

Attention then turned to the holidays, as commissioners confirmed that the Park City Christmas Parade will move to the second Saturday in December.

Commissioner Kim Nunn explained that the change should give more groups an opportunity to participate. “Traditionally, we’ve had four local parades on the same day, which meant limited availability for participants,” Nunn said. “We feel by moving our parade to the second Saturday of December, that would give us an opportunity to increase participation.”

The parade’s new date is set for Saturday, Dec. 13, with line-up beginning at 9 a.m. at Park City Elementary School. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. and will circle through the town. This year’s theme is “Hometown Christmas,” with grand marshal to be announced closer to the event. Participation is free, though registration is required.

Forms will be available Oct. 1 at City Hall, Miss Betty’s Diner, Grateful Hearts Boutique and Consignment, and on the tourism website. Vendor applications for the Christmas Street Market, which runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. the same day, will also open then. Volunteers interested in assisting with parade line-up should contact Nunn, while vendors should reach out to Watts.

The commission’s next meeting will be Oct. 14 at 3 p.m.
