Numerous Glasgow and Barren County first responders were honored Saturday evening during the First Responder Awards Dinner.

The award winners were:

  • Travis Atwell, Austin Tracy Volunteer Fire Department
  • Bobby Bilbrey, East Barren Volunteer Fire Department
  • Larry Poteet, Park City Volunteer Fire Department
  • Alan Thomas, South Barren Volunteer Fire Department
  • Beth Proffitt, Temple Hill Volunteer Fire Department
  • Zachary Rainey, posthumously for both Haywood Fire Department and Barren/Metcalfe EMS
  • James Duff, Barren County Sheriff’s Office
  • Billy Cortway, Cave City Police Department
  • Andrew Moore, Glasgow Police Department
  • Alex Martinez, Barren County Detention Center
  • Tabitha Tran, 9-1-1 Center
  • Jamie Degroft, Barren County Road Department

A special part of the evening’s ceremonies were dedicated to the first inductees to the Barren County First Responders Wall of Honor, those whose legacies have had a profound impact on Glasgow and Barren County.

Those individuals included the late Mike Swift, who was described as a pioneer in the EMS industry by starting Barren/Metcalfe EMS and also serving as coroner. Other honorees included the late Rusty Anderson, detective with the Barren County Sheriff’s Office; the late Jim Wingfield, who served as fire chief for the Glasgow Fire Department; and Chief Larry Bragg, serving the Austin Tracy Volunteer Fire Department.

Deputy Judge Executive Garland Gilliam captured the spirit of the evening when he remarked what Swift always used to say regarding first responders: “We are all family; we just wear different color uniforms.”
