McMurtrey posts career-best score as Lady Topper

Nina McMurtrey posted a career-best run at the Boilermaker Classic that ended Tuesday in Wes Lafayette, Indiana. The former Glasgow golfer shot 223 over 54 holes while playing as an individual for Western Kentucky University. She tied for 23rd, which was tied for her career-best finish as a Lady Topper golfer.

McMurtrey shot 3-over in the final round Tuesday. She finished 7-over par for the tournament. WKU finished ninth as a team.

WKU posted a 296 score (+8) in the third round, which was the best round by the Lady Toppers in the tournament, shaving nine strokes off their second-round score. WKU finished with a 40-over score of 904 for the tournament overall. Senior Sydney Hackett moved up eight spots into a tie for 13th place, finishing 2-over for the tournament. She shot 2-under in the second round, which was the seventh best score in the round.

Freshman Reagan Ramage had an impressive final round, shooting 1-over for the day. She finished in a tie for 38th place with an 11-over score for the tournament. Freshman Leah Edwards shot 7-over in the final round to finish in a tie for 49th place with a 17-over score for the tournament. Sophomore Kaylee Dwyer posted a 10-over score on Tuesday, finishing the tournament in a tie for 61st place with a 235 through the three rounds. Senior Averi Cline moved up four spots to clinch 69th place with a bounce back 2-over score in the third round.

“We had a much better round today. It’s early in the season, so we’ll take what we learned from this tournament and keep working for our next outing,” said head coach Adam Gary.

The Lady Toppers will continue the fall season at the Badger Invitational, hosted by Wisconsin, On Sept. 14-16.
