As the weather gets cooler, and the winter months loom closer, Barren Inc. announced the 2025 Christmas parade theme during an afternoon press conference at Philips Family Grocery and Butcher Shop.
The theme of the annual parade is “Neon Christmas,” according to a Barren Inc. press release.
“Expect dazzling colors, bright accents, and glowing vibes that bring a modern pop to timeless holiday cheer,” the release stated. “From neon-wrapped floats to luminescent costumes and creative blacklight designs, participants are encouraged to shine bright and let it glow, let it glow, let it glow.”
Application for participating floats will be available on Oct. 1 and will be due “no later than” Nov. 21 at 4 p.m. People who register before Oct. 31 will pay $25 whereas the cost will increase to $50 per float afterwards, according to Barren Inc.
The Barren County Flames Special Olympics Team, for “exemplif[ing] teamwork, perseverance, and community spirit,” has been selected as the 2025 Christmas Parade Grand Marshal. Program and Event Director Erin Hiles said the flames were unaware that were getting named as the 2025 Grand Marshal.
Coach James Cheely said the flames “were going to leave a mark” on the neon-themed parade.
“You wait until December rolls around, we are going to light it up neon with you all,” Cheely said. “We appreciate the opportunity immensely.”
Billed as the largest nighttime parade in Kentucky, the Glasgow Christmas Parade will take place on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025. In 2024, Hiles said the parade had 160 entries
In years past, the parade started at Glasgow High School, traveled down Columbia Avenue and around the square before heading down South Green Street. The parade has always elicited big turnout from the community as residents would line the route with blankets, lawn chairs and occasionally their car trunks, all to see the brightly-colored floats and school bands make their way through the cold, crisp December night. Currently, this year is expected to be no different.
