A concept drawing of proposed paving was shown to the members of the Glasgow-Barren County Soccer Cooperative Board on Tuesday, Aug. 26.

The proposed plan would create 408 parking spaces at the soccer complex that’s off Cleveland Avenue by restriping the current lot to 90-degree spots — as opposed to the current angled parking — and adding additional parking lots to the south, west and east. Currently, the complex has 190 parking spots, according to the concept drawing.

Arnold Consulting Engineering Services supplied the drawing. The Bowling Green firm was chosen by the board on July 22 after they won the bid to design the new parking lot for $17,000. Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd said the $17,000 would come out of the  cooperative’s funds.

Several of the members voiced their opinions of what they thought and what they would like to see included in the design — for example, Byrd suggested adding sidewalks from the lots to the fields; others mentioned bus-specific parking spots. A representative with the firm said they should have the updated drawing along with tentative numbers by the next meeting on Sept. 23.

Byrd said the cooperative has not received the $500,000 that was recently awarded, but most likely will when the federal budget is finalized. She also said this might be a summer project based on when they get the money and if leagues are happening at the time.
