The South Cooper Industrial Park in Glasgow has two new sites ready for development.

Barren County Economic Authority President and Chief Executive Officer Maureen Carpenter recently announced to the board of directors that lots 2 and 6 out at the industrial park off U.S. 68/Ky. 80 have been graded and are ready for future development. Land Grading “involves reshaping the ground surface to planned elevations [which provides] more suitable topography for buildings, facilities,” according to the Environmental Protection Agency.

Both of the newly graded lots are vacant and are “being marketed as vacant, pad ready sites,” according to an email sent to Glasgow News 1 by Carpenter.

“[T]he Authority has not discussed the construction of additional speculative buildings at this time,” Carpenter wrote.

The two graded sites join the speculative buildings and the recently constructed Beltline Boulevard on the 153.18-acres property. Carpenter said Lot 7, which has the 100,000 square foot building on it, is under contract by Bluegrass Ingredients, based on prior reporting. Bluegrass Ingredients entered into an option agreement with the economic authority that was extended to six 45-day periods in May.

South Cooper Industrial Park also has a 50,000 square foot building on the land across the boulevard from Lot 7. Carpenter said the authority has “prospect activity,” however there is no formal agreements for its sale.

All sites are being marketed at this time, Carpenter wrote. It is underdetermined how many speculative buildings will be constructed at the industrial park.

Carpenter has previously said the purpose of the speculative buildings is to incentivize prospective businesses locating or expanding in Barren County by reducing the amount of time and risk they have to take on.
