People going around Glasgow and Barren County will see United States flags flying a little lower than normal.

From sunrise to sunset on Aug. 14 U.S. flags have been ordered to fly at half-staff “at all state buildings” by Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear in honor Pfc. Rodger E. Fields, who died during the Korean War but was only identified in May 2025.

Fields of Busy, Kentucky, was assigned to Company D, 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division and was killed in action on Dec. 1, 1950, during the Battle of Jangjin Reservoir in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, the official name of North Korea. He will be interred at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery South East in Hyden on Aug. 14.

Beshear encourages all individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.
