Barren County drivers will soon see school buses begin making their rounds and traffic around schools will increase, as two of the three local school districts open the 2025-26 academic year. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is reminding people to use extra caution as this school routine resumes after months of summer.
“School buses will be on the road early in the morning and in the late afternoon,” the cabinet stated. “Please use caution in hard-to-see areas, such as hills and curves. Remember to not pass a school bus while it is loading or unloading. This process can take a few minutes, so please be patient.”
Caverna Independent and Barren County schools both have the students’ first day as Aug. 13. Glasgow Independent Schools has a first day scheduled for Aug. 26.
Pedestrian traffic near schools is also expected to pick up. Be mindful of pedestrians walking in the area, especially those crossing the street, the cabinet stated.
“Motorists are reminded that school zone flashers have been activated and lower speed limits exist during designated times,” the cabinet stated.
