A broken utility pole has closed a portion of a Glasgow city street, likely for the rest of the day.

Glasgow Police Department Public Information Officer Terry Flatt said based on the information he’s received the repair would take between six and eight hours, during which time the intersection of East Main Street and South Broadway Street will be closed to traffic. He said they have barriers in place on all four sides denoting the intersection’s closure.

“We’re probably looking at 6 to 8 hours for the repairs,” Flatt said. “The intersection will be closed until [the utility companies] don’t need us anymore…but we can’t jeopardize anybody’s safety.”

Flatt said there are multiple utility companies on scene to make necessary repairs.

The closure includes the intersection, the East Main Street section coming off of Glasgow’s public square, the intersection of East Washington and Broadway streets, and the East Water Street and Columbia Avenue intersection.

Due to the broken pole Glasgow’s city hall — the Luska J. Twyman Municipal Building — will be closed today, Aug. 7.

Flatt said the pole was hit by a vehicle that drove off and the police “are still trying to find out who.”
