Members of the Barren County Fiscal Court Transportation Committee discussed bids for various construction projects but took no official action during a special-called meeting Friday morning. The full fiscal court is set to meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, to further discuss and possibly approve some of the bids.
For the Matthews Mill Road Bridge repair project, Intech Contracting had two bids: one for $477,075 that would close the bridge for around 45 days; and another for $531,975 that would close the road to a single lane for about 60 days.
Committee members discussed some of the pros and cons of each option, and the distance drivers would have to travel if the bridge is closed during repair.
“How far do people have to drive around?” asked Tim Coomer, a Barren County magistrate who is the chair of the transportation committee.
There were two bids for the Matthews Mill Culvert Replacement and Resurfacing project: Scotty’s Contracting priced the culvert portion at $72,634.96 and resurfacing at $119,487.50; Cleary Contracting had a $164,000 bid for the culvert replacement and $51,000 for the resurfacing.
“We had a cheaper bid on the tile replacement than we did on the resurfacing,” Coomer said, adding that he is unsure if they should break up the project between the two bidders, going with the cheaper option for each portion.
The Ritters Mill Road Bridge repair had two bids: Bluegrass Concrete priced the project at $281,700; and Scott & Murphy had a bid for $495,300.
Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd said the bids will be further discussed during Tuesday’s full fiscal court meeting.
