Some area children will be walking into the upcoming school year wearing a new pair of shoes.
Corey Edwards and Ken Garrett donated 139 pairs of shoes Wednesday morning to members of the Boys and Girls Club of Glasgow-Barren County.
Edwards said he wanted to inspire his own children and the children of the club to grow up and make a difference in other people’s lives.
“No matter where you get at in life, I want them to give back,” Edwards said. “Even in your lowest points in life, you can still give back with prayer — just whatever it takes to get up and change a life.”

Bronson Wells, store manager of Hibbett Sports in Glasgow, and Tabatha Handley, member management and food coordinator with the boys and girls club, helped with the logistics of this donation, from figuring out the correct sizes for each child and finding the shoes at various Hibbett stores.
“We’ve been very excited about this,” Handley said. “It’s really, really helpful to the kids. The parents are really, really appreciative of it.”
Edwards said this donation is in loving memory of his step-father, Stevie Wooten, who inspired him “more than anything to want to give back and help others.”
“He was always doing things to help others,” Edwards said of Wooten, adding that he wants to make this shoe donation an annual event.
“Hopefully it can grow from here.”
