Preliminary hearing set for Barren strangulation case

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled in a Barren County assault, strangulation and wanton endangerment case.

Thirty-six-year-old Wesley Houchens was arrested on July 25 by Barren County sheriff deputies at T.J. Samson Community Hospital due to an event that occurred the night before on Oil Well Road.

He is charged with:

  • fourth-degree assault (domestic violence with minor injuries)
  • domestic-violence related first-degree strangulation
  • first-degree strangulation (not domestic violence related)
  • fourth-degree assault with minor injury
  • first-degree wanton endangerment
  • second-degree assault
  • resisting arrest

At his district court appearance, Judge Gabe Pendleton said Houchens’ case would be set for a preliminary hearing next Monday, Aug. 4, at 1 p.m.

He has a cash bond of $50,000, according to the Barren County Detention Center.
