Several area colleges and universities received funds from Kentucky’s Council on Postsecondary Education for investments in their health care programs.

“The awards will provide training scholarships to over 200 Kentucky resident students studying fields with workforce shortages,” a council press release states.

The 28 postsecondary health care programs across the commonwealth will receive a portion of the $4.3 million given through the council and made possible by the Kentucky Healthcare Workforce Investment Fund, a public-private partnership enacted during the 2023 legislative session that recognized the health care workforce shortage, according to the press release.

“I am grateful the General Assembly took this meaningful step to address Kentucky’s critical health care workforce needs and expand access to training across the state,” said Leslie Sizemore, vice president of workforce and economic development at the Council on Postsecondary Education. “I’m confident these awards will attract more students into health care professions and strengthen communities across the Commonwealth.”

Some of the health care programs awarded include radiology, radiography, nursing, paramedicine, health sciences and physician assistants.

Lindsey Wilson University’s BSN program received $318,000, Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College’s ADN and AAS programs received $100,000 and $20,000 respectively and Western Kentucky University’s BSN program got $200,000, the press release states.

Donations from health care providers are matched dollar for dollar by the Healthcare Workforce Investment Fund, according to the release, which lists Taylor Regional Health paired with Lindsey Wilson and Med Center Health as paired with the other three programs.
