Barren County Schools was recently awarded a $14,000 grant from WHAS Crusade for Children to improve district technology and communication.
Christa Middleton, director of special programs for Barren County Schools, said during the board of education’s July meeting that the district had received this funding.
“That grant will help purchase iPads for our students,” Middleton said. “Along with communication apps for students across the district in classrooms.”
This grant was one of more than 200 made possible through donations during a recent telethon that raised over $5 million. Dawn Lee, president and CEO of the WHAS Crusade for Children, said in a press release that this is a “powerful example of what our communities can do when we come together.”
“Every donation, large or small, directly benefits children throughout Kentucky and Indiana,” Lee said. “And thanks to our generous donors, dedicated firefighters, and community partners, we are able to fund critical programs that change lives.”
Barren County got this grant with the help of Kacy Lindaman, who was the district’s grant writer and now the assistant director of nutrition services.

Lindaman was recognized as the Classified Employee of the Month during July’s board meeting.
Cheyanne Fant, director of nutrition services and after-school programs for the school district, said Lindaman “shines her light quietly, yet powerfully, as she changes the landscape of our district in ways that will help us grow and glow for years.”
“She has helped bring in more than $5 million in funding this year,” Fant said of Lindaman. “From agriculture to education to after-school programs — or fresh fruit and vegetables in our schools — Kacy has turned ideas that people have had in our district into opportunities for our students.
“Kacy doesn’t just write grants, she writes the future.”
