Federal Emergency Management Agency funds are available for Barren County.
Two disaster declarations for the April and May storms that caused significant damage in Kentucky have been approved by the federal government. The declarations allow for public assistance in the 64 counties affected by April flooding and the 36 counties affected by the May severe weather.
Barren County is listed among counties eligible to apply for federal funds, according to a press release from Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear.
Barren County Emergency Management Director Garland Gilliam said the declaration opens the door to getting reimbursements and possible mitigation funds from FEMA to repair or rebuild county infrastructure.
Public assistance is different than individual assistance. The FEMA website states public assistance “provides supplemental grants to state, tribal, territorial, local governments, and certain types of private non-profits so that communities can quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies.”
