Over 1,300 driving permit tests are available as part of the second statewide testing event, which is offered through the Kentucky State Police.

The statewide driver permit testing event will take place on Aug. 2 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., but appointment registration is already available on the state police’s website. Locations offering permit testing include Bowling Green, Burlington, Catlettsburg, Elizabethtown, Frankfort, Independence, Jackson, Lexington (Leestown Road), Louisville (Bowman Field), Maysville, Morehead and Pikeville.

Applicants can take the test at any of the 12 counties offered and this one-day event does not include CDL or road skills testing, according to a state police press release.

“Those seeking appointments should prepare necessary documentation to ensure a smooth and fair scheduling process,” the release states.

Due to the move to the regional licensing offices, people in Barren County have to travel to Bowling Green or another regional office or wait for a popup licensing event in order to take a test or transition to a REAL ID. Previously, the Barren County Administration and Budget Committee discussed the benefits of a regional office in the county.

With the passage of Kentucky House Bill 15, which was signed by Governor Andy Beshear in March, 15-year-olds are eligible to participate in the statewide event. As of mid-July, more than 17,000 15-year-olds have earned their permit, according to the transportation cabinet.

At the last statewide testing event, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet stated over 1,100 permit test were administered.
