Glasgow native Abbie Lee turned in a hot round Tuesday to win the 29th Kentucky Women’s Open. She shot a 7-under par 65 to surge from a five-stroke deficit after round one.
Lee opened Day 2 by sinking birdies on the first five holes at University of Louisville Golf Club. She added another birdie on the par-4 ninth to finish the front nine at 6-under 30. On the back nine, she continued to roll along and she finished the tournament with a birdie on 18. The Day 2 65 was the lowest round of the tournament.
Entering the second round, Lee trailed three other golfers who were tied for first by five strokes. She finished the tournament at 5-under par, 139.
Fellow Glasgow native Taryn Walker shot 9-over for the tournament and finished tied for 21st.
The three players who finished tied for second — one stroke behind Lee — were all professionals. Lee is an amateur.
