1 dead, several injured after interstate collision; Glasgow man arrested

A female juvenile is dead and several were injured following a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 65.

On March 30, “just before” 7 p.m. Kentucky State Police troopers arrived at the scene of the collision, which was at the 59-mile marker on Interstate 65 southbound.

A preliminary investigation “indicates that a 2014 Ford Focus, operated by 23-year-old Dru Smith of Glasgow, was parked along the side of the roadway [when a] 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander, driven by 31-year-old Cory Bowles, also of Glasgow, was traveling southbound when it veered off the roadway and collided with Smith’s parked vehicle,” according to the state police.

The female juvenile passenger was airlifted to Norton Children’s Hospital and later died due to her injuries at the hospital on July 5.

Bowles and a “male juvenile passenger in Bowles’ vehicle” were both taken to T.J. Samson Community Hospital along with Mindy Bowles, who was later airlifted to the University of Louisville Hospital, according to a state police press release.

Smith the operator of the Ford Focus was airlifted to the University of Louisville Hospital.

Bowles is charged with two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment and fourth-degree assault.

The investigation is ongoing and is being led by Detective Bo Hubbard.
