Siddens Road, southwest of Glasgow, will be closed to all through traffic at the bridge until further notice due to repairs and construction equipment moving about in the area.

This bridge maintenance is the result of more than three-quarter of a million dollars that was recently given to the county by the state out of its $25 million appropriation “for preventative bridge maintenance in Kentucky.” At the March Barren County Fiscal Court meeting, the magistrates approved the $751,319 with Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd commenting it was the second-highest amount awarded.

“This is true preventative maintenance because the bridge is not at failure but it’s right on that cusp,” Byrd said at the time. “It’s not failing. We’re trying to prevent it from getting there.”

At the April fiscal court meeting, the magistrates approved Intech Contracting for the bridge preservation for $762,342.98 with magistrate Tim Coomer saying the bridge should not be closed for more than 60 days.

Glasgow-Barren County Emergency Management stated that an alternate route will need to be utilized.
