Shawn Green Jr. requested a preliminary hearing at his district court appearance yesterday afternoon.

Appearing via Zoom, Green told Barren County District Judge Gabe Pendleton he wanted a preliminary hearing when asked if he’d prefer waiving his first-degree arson case to a grand jury or another appearance in district court. Pendleton set his hearing for next Monday, July 14, at 1 p.m.

Pendleton also said he would take Green’s bond, which is $15,000, under advisement but the commonwealth would oppose bond modifications in this case due to the severity of the charges. First-degree arson is a class A felony in Kentucky.

Nineteen-year-old Green of Bowling Green was arrested by Glasgow police after he allegedly started a fire in a Glasgow residence on Village Circle. The Glasgow Fire Department stated fireworks were shot through a window causing “heavy smoke [to come] from the basement of the apartment” and igniting a fire.

“[The fire department] had to breach both the ceiling and walls of the fire room to ensure no spread of the fire before declaring a knockdown,” a fire department press release states. “After salvage and overhaul of the impacted apartment and the adjoining apartment [the fire department] cleared the scene. Units were on scene for approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes with no injuries reported.”
