Near exit 8 of the Cumberland Parkway there are flaggers directing traffic while numerous trucks and steamrollers work at the resurfacing project from KY-1297 to US-68. According to the report this section of the project, which is from marker 0.0 to 2.5, will last at least until July 5. Drivers should expect to stop or slow down when going through the area. One Barren County state road is listed on the most recent Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 3’s traffic impact report. Down from three in the prior traffic reports.

The report, which is through July 4, states that U.S. 68 — otherwise known as New Bowling Green Road — will have road crews working on drainage in the first ten miles, near the Warren County line.

Other than Barren County, there are several  several traffic reminders in Butler, Logan, Monroe and Warren counties as well as a new traffic pattern for interstate 165. The other expected road work is:

Interstate 165

  • **** NEW TRAFFIC PATTERN*** – A project to completely restore and preserve the I-165 bridges over the Green River (mile point 32.6) in Butler County continues. Motorists will be switched onto the new traffic pattern beginning July 7. The northbound motorists will be switched to the southbound side. The speed limit has been lowered to 55 mph. Motorists should use caution. The project is expected to last until fall of 2026.
  • Highway Safety Improvement Project (HSIP) at Interstate 165 Exit 7 U.S. 231 Morgantown Road in Bowling Green has started. The project will retrofit the current interchange to convert it to a Double Crossover Diamond (DCD) Interchange. While the road will remain open throughout the project, motorists will notice different traffic patterns during construction.  The speed limit on U.S. 231 has been lowered to 35 mph through the work zone. The 45-mph area has been extended north of the work zone to Veterans Memorial Highway. One lane in each direction on U.S. 231 is closed. Motorists should use caution while traveling through this section of roadway. The project is expected to be completed later this fall.

Butler County

  • KY 3205 (mile points 0 to 3) – Crews will be resurfacing the roadway in this section. Lane closures should be expected.
  • KY 411 (mile points 0 to 4) – Crews will be resurfacing the roadway in this section. Lane closures should be expected.

Logan County

  • U.S. 431 (mile points 24 to 25) – Crews will be working on slide repair as well as well milling and paving at this location.

 Monroe County

  • KY 678 (mile point 8.6) – A project to replace a low-water crossing with a bridge has created a long-term closure on KY 678 at Peter Creek in Monroe County. The closure is expected to last until July.

Warren County

  • U.S. 31-W (mile points 20.9 to 22.5) – The next phase of U.S. 31-W widening in northern Warren County has started. Crews have started moving dirt to widen U.S. 31-W from U.S. 68 to Mizpah Road. Most of the work is being done away from the current roadway so little traffic impacts are expected.
  • KY 185 – Two improvement projects on KY 185 have started. The bulk of the work is being done away from the current roadway with little traffic impact.  The realignment section of KY 185 will create a new road to the east of the current KY 185, starting near Runner Road and tying back into the current KY 185 just south of KY 1320 (Penns Chapel Road).  The HSIP section of the project is from KY 1320 to near Jack Simmons Road, 1.26 miles in length. Drainage improvements and ditching will be a part of this project.
  • U.S. 68 at KY 242 – A Highway Safety Improvement Project (HSIP) is set to begin on U.S. 68 in the Browning Community area of Warren County. The project will construct a Restricted Crossing U-Turn (RCUT) at the intersection of U.S. 68 and KY 242. Motorists should expect lane closures throughout the entire construction process.

All work is subject to change.
