A land purchase proposal headlined the annual HERO Foundation board meeting.
Directly after the Housing Authority of Glasgow special-called board meeting adjourned, chair John Rogers called the foundation’s meeting to order. After financial business was discussed and the officers chosen, the board members turned their attention to a 0.6-acre property available for purchase.
“I just wanted to inform the board that this vacant lot could be a potential building site for some more affordable housing,” Executive Operations Officer Sheri Lee said.
The property is between South Franklin, Mill, South Morgan and East Brown streets, according to Lee, showing the aerial photo she had taken from the Property Valuation Administration’s website. She also said the HERO Foundation’s eight-plex was immediately to the left — off South Morgan Street.
The land is currently owned by the Charles Austin Goodman IV Revocable Trust, according to the PVA, and is valued at $10,000 as of 2024. Lee said it would be sold to the foundation for $15-16,000.
While no concrete action was taken by the board members, they did express interest in pursuing the purchase.
“I think it makes sense,” said board member Lisa Elmore.
“I don’t think you can buy property in the county for that,” added Maintenance Director Rodney Sherfey.
Lee said there was a possibility of adding three more affordable housing units.

When the sale is nearing finalization, Lee said she would bring it up again to the board members.
