In celebration of Dairy Month, The People’s Bank of Glasgow will host a “Dairy Day” event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Friday on the bank’s front lawn.
The free event will feature agriculture activities for children, ice cream, local milk from Legacy Dairy and a cow-milking simulator.
Terry Bunnell, president and CEO of The People’s Bank, said they wanted to recognize area dairy farmers.
“We’re very blessed in our community to have some individuals who are truly committed to farming,” he said. “Those individuals are involved in a great product for our food.”
Bunnell said Kentucky State University and its new Barren County extension office will be bringing a calf and a cow-milking simulator.
“If you want to try your skill at milking a cow, we’re going to have that for you,” he said. “We hope people come out and enjoy the day.”
Barren County High School’s Future Farmers of America chapter will be helping out with the event.
“The FFA’s purpose as a club is to promote agriculture and promote leadership, so I feel like this event is the perfect way to do that,” said Alana Houchens, vice president of Barren County’s FFA chapter. “This is literally exactly what the FFA is for.
“Any chance we can get to support those local farmers, we’ll take it. So this is awesome.”
