It was an emotional morning at Park City Elementary School as the new principal was announced.

Though the children were out of school for the summer and the halls weren’t filled with the usual low hum of activity, friends, family and school employees gathered in the library to listen as the site-based decision-making council members announced Brian Clifford as the new Park City Elementary School principal.

Clifford will assume principal responsibilities on July 1, a district press release stated.

This is not Clifford’s first time leading Park City Elementary School. After a brief time serving as a teacher in Taylor County, he became principal in 2005, which was his first principal position, and he’s happy to be returning to the helm.

After serving as principal, Clifford has had “several leadership roles,” including instructional coordinator, director of elementary instruction, and, most recently, in the position of Educational Recovery Leadership with the Kentucky Department of Education. He has a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in science from Campbellsville University and his Rank I in Educational Leadership from Eastern Kentucky University, the press release stated.

Beth Davidson, the now-former school principal, will be an assistant principal at Barren County Middle School for the 2025-26 school year. In his remarks, Clifford praised Davidson for her “commitment and dedication” to the school, saying the school is on an overall “upswing” because of her leadership and the school staff that rallied behind her.

Barren County Schools Superintendent Amy Irwin introduced the selection group and Clifford, praising the group on an excellent selection.

“We are thrilled to welcome Mr. Clifford back home to Park City Elementary,” Irwin said. “With over 28 years of experience and a deep commitment to student success, Mr. Clifford brings both heart and expertise to this role. I’m confident he will provide outstanding leadership to the students, staff, and community he knows so well.”

Barren County students’ first day is scheduled for Aug. 13, according to the approved 25-26 school calendar.
