Members of the Glasgow-Barren County Tourist and Convention Commission approved a new budget for the upcoming fiscal year on Tuesday, June 10, during their regular monthly meeting. They also approved a $1,000 sponsorship for Entertain Glasgow’s Summer Concert Series in June.
Commissioner Ale Gomez, who virtually attended Tuesday’s meeting, said these events bring a lot of people to the area.
This month’s concert features Cochran & Co. on Friday, June 27, at Beaver Creek Park, with Glasgow native Justin Cole as the opening act.
“That’ll be a pretty good turnout,” Commissioner Tim Gooden said.
When discussing the new budget, Executive Director MacLean Lessenberry said they will no longer have any funds coming in from the American Rescue Plan Act, which provided government entities with extra help after the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We really tried to be just pretty conservative with things because we aren’t positive what’s going to happen with the rest of the year,” Lessenberry said, adding that travel forecasting for this year “has not been great.”
In other business, Tina Wood, director of administrative services for the commission, said over $17,100 was collected in May by the City of Glasgow for tourism.
