Shane Reece’s case was forwarded to a Barren County grand jury after his district court appearance on May 29.

The 58-year-old was arrested by Glasgow police officers on May 20 for allegedly shooting a woman and setting fire to the bedroom of a duplex off McGrah Avenue in Glasgow. He is charged with attempted murder – domestic violence, first-degree arson, first-degree wanton endangerment and torture of a cat, according to the Barren County Detention Center.

Appearing from the jail via Zoom, Reece listened as his arresting officer, Jarrett Graber, testified before District Judge Gabe Pendleton. Graber said he was dispatched to 129 McGrah Avenue and found a woman with wounds to her head and wrist — Graber later said a Winchester 20 gauge shotgun found on the kitchen floor.

A cat had died in the duplex due to smoke inhalation, Graber said.

Reece told sheriff’s deputies that he was the shooter they were looking for, according to Graber, but no such statement was made to Graber, himself, who wrote in the initial report Reece “had no idea what had happened as he got worked up and had blacked out,” as his attorney pointed out during cross examination.

“Barren County deputies were the ones he made that statement to, not me,” Graber said.

Graber said Reece was the only person in that side of the duplex at the time, though, according to him, there was a juvenile on the other side of the duplex at the time of the shooting and fire.

With no argument made by the defense, Pendleton found reason to forward Reece’s case to a grand jury.

The bond in this case is set at $750,000, according to the jail website.

Glasgow Police Department Public Information Officer Terry Flatt said the woman, whose name he did not release since it was a domestic violence situation, has been released from the hospital.
